One of the greatest sounding albums I've ever listened to
This version has been mastered with "pre-emphasis". If you convert it to MP3, it might sound extremely bright. Apart from that, it's a fantastic sounding release and an amazing album, likely Lionel's finest! Most CD players will adjust the tracks using "emphasis". However, they usually won't show this, though some older models might. I'm using a Onkyo DX-7500 and it has a emphasis light that turns on when this disc is played. That's how I found out about this processing.
Richie isn't just an incredibly skilled pop vocalist, but he's also penned smash hits for Diana Ross, The Temptations, Kenny Rogers, and even his own group, The Commodores. This is his second solo album, released in '82, and it's a beautifully crafted treasure of songwriting, performance, and production. Lots of DX7 synth work, electronic drums, and sequencing, with extended studio reverb and a hint of compression. You can really feel the '80s in this one. My absolute favorite track is "Stuck On You", which gives off a similar musical feel to his magnum opus, "Easy". "All Night Long" and "Hello" are also pretty fantastic singles. There's so much to appreciate about this album. The mix is as pristine as it gets, with a cleverly set up soundstage, and full spectrum instruments, including some groovy synth bass filling out the low end and string pads at the top. This pressing sounds amazing, I can't picture wanting more. Snag this one if you have the chance. 4 stars, highly recommended.
Snagged this at a thrift shop for a buck cause the cover was lookin' pretty rad. Got home and whoa, turns out Richie's pals with Christina Agoolaria. Not feelin' it, man.
Awesome 80's vinyl audio, super musical and a joy to listen to from start to finish! budget-friendly record with fantastic entertainment value! Amazing sounds from the pre-digital era..
