The record I purchased is stunning. Everything's perfect. Grabbed it from the Toronto shop last summer. Not a single hiss or pop to be found.
The first disc might be a bit more flat but the warp doesn't impact the sound much, it's fairly quiet overall but there's some noticeable surface noise in a few spots on Side C. Centered around solo guitar pieces that come across as reflective and serene, it's very much an album that feels personal and introspective. Compared to One Quiet Night, which has a more folk-inspired, acoustic feel, Dream Box comes off as even more ambient and meditative, with looser, freeform structures. While What's It All About interprets covers with lyrical, melodic accuracy, Dream Box is more personal and abstract, focusing on mood over melody.
Finally got my hands on a copy last night at his NYC show, courtesy of the Kaufman 92Y Theater. It's incredibly quiet, no surface noise or other issues that some folks mentioned. I've seen him live with PMG and other groups over the years, but last night's performance was something else. If he's playing near you, don't miss this tour. Trust me, you won't be let down, and make sure to grab a copy while you're there. Maybe it's a newer batch, but mine sounds fantastic.
