Be aware that this CD boasts EXCELLENT audio quality. There's always been something off about the 2006 remasters for me. It's tough to put into words, but they just come across as artificial, lacking that lifelike feel. For a while, this issue made me hesitant to listen to their albums repeatedly. After comparing WAV files of the 2006 version and this 1990 master, the differences are strikingly obvious. I compared 'Spoon,' and the brickwalling on the 2006 version is awful—too loud and compressed. This 1990 master doesn't have that problem at all. Also gone in this earlier master is the noticeable noise reduction present in the 2006 remasters. When playing 'Pinch' from the 2006 remaster, Damo's vocals hit a cutoff point, making them a bit muffled. This 1990 master allows you to hear more tape hiss, but it's inherent to the medium, so it doesn't bother me. With this hiss, you get more clarity on Damo's vocals; they sound much more natural and less confined. I assume this improved sound quality applies to the other early 1990s CD reissues as well. One reason you might prefer these specific U.S. reissues is the artwork on the back cover matches the LP, unlike the single-colored back covers of the European CD reissues. The inside booklet recreates the inner sleeve from the LP, along with some fun band photos. I also have some of the other Restless Retro 90's reissues (Tago Mago & Future Days, with Babaluma on the way) and they sound just as excellent, with the same observations applying to them. No brickwalling, no excessive noise reduction, better packaging. One more thing worth noting, 'Spoon' on this 1990 CD has a slight reverb on top, easier to hear on the opening drum machine solo. This reverb isn't audible on the 2006 remaster, and I'm not sure if it's on the original pressings either. It's very mild though, so it doesn't bother me after hearing the song without it. Canned vegetables have never sounded so good.

The audio quality of this record seems off to me. It's a bit unclear and sounds all mixed up.
Fantastic sounding album, with impressive detail and a wonderful sound stage. My copy is completely noise-free.
