Product description

This 2025 Reissue LP is pressed on Orange vinyl.

Coheed and Cambria's sophomore album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, is a masterful blend of progressive rock and conceptual storytelling. Released on 7 October 2003 through Equal Vision Records, this 12-track masterpiece has captivated audiences with its dark, violent, and intelligent narrative. The album, which peaked at #52 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 500,000 copies, is RIAA certified Gold and showcases the band's ability to craft intricate, stark, and at times disturbing songs.

The album's storyline, penned by Sanchez, is a continuation of the band's ongoing epic, which began with their debut album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Each song on In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 carries the listener through a complex and immersive world, where the characters Coheed and Cambria live and die. From the opening notes of "The Ring In Return" to the closing track "21:13", the album takes you on a journey through a never-never world of love, shadow, and redemption.

With its unique blend of progressive rock and conceptual storytelling, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 has become a classic of the genre. The album's production, handled by Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner at Applehead Recording in Woodstock, New York, is crisp and polished, bringing out the best in Coheed and Cambria's intricate instrumentation and soaring vocals. With a duration of 1 hour and 9 minutes, this album is a must-listen for fans of progressive rock and conceptual storytelling. Coheed and Cambria's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is a testament to the band's innovative spirit and their ability to craft music that is both intelligent and accessible.

  • Stylus Enhances Record Sound

    5 out of 5 stars

I absolutely ADORE the sound of my copy; I genuinely like it way more than the CD. Maybe it's got something to do with the stylus people are using? I've got a ML (microlinear) stylus and it's really helped bring out the best sound from most of my records....super happy to have this.

  • Decent Pressing, Flat Sound

    4 out of 5 stars
    SjqyawedOctober 1, 2025United States🇺🇸

In general, this pressing is pretty decent. I haven't experienced any hissing, just a bit of static at the start of the record. The rest of it's fine, no warping on the vinyl either. But the sound seems a tad flat to my ears, which is why I'm deducting a star.

  • Modern Rock Gem

It's fascinating to read through all the feedback here… I reckon this is one of the better-sounding modern rock albums in my collection. My only minor issues are with the bass (it's a tad distant and prominent in the mix) and the distorted guitars tend to get a bit squashed in the center of the soundstage when the track really gets going. Apart from that, it's a fantastic recording and pressing. The vocals are pleasant and the drums are exceptionally well recorded (for this time period) – the clean guitars are deep and expansive across the speakers. I've got a bit of surface noise at the beginning of the record but none elsewhere. Certainly no harsh or unlistenable treble and sibilance. Maybe there are some faulty copies out there? I got mine on the release date too. Maybe this pressing is all-analog… the liner notes say “mastered from original analog tapes by Ryan Smith” but I suppose I can't confirm if it remained all-analog throughout the entire process.

  • Mixed Quality Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars

I must say, my grey pressing is alright. I was a bit nervous to purchase it due to all the negative feedback I'd heard about the quality, but honestly, it seems to be a mixed bag. After spending ages researching, I found that some folks are complaining about terrible sound quality, while others report no issues like hissing, cracks, or warping. So, if you're thinking about buying this, be aware that it's a bit of a roll of the dice. Surprisingly, they're still available on MerchNow at the moment for whatever reason.
