Product description

This 2024 Deluxe Edition Limited Edition Numbered 2LP set is pressed on 180g vinyl.

Bill Evans' latest release, 'In Norway: The Kongsberg Concert', is a captivating album that showcases the legendary pianist's unique talent. Recorded on 26 June 1970 at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway, this previously unreleased performance features Evans alongside his trusted companions, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell. The trio's synergy is palpable as they deliver 13 exquisite tracks, including 'Come Rain or Come Shine', 'Autumn Leaves', and 'Nardis'.

With audio transferred from the original stereo tape reels and mastered by Matthew Lutthans at the Mastering Lab, the sound quality is nothing short of brilliant. The album is a testament to Evans' skill and artistry, as he navigates complex melodies and harmonies with ease. The relaxed atmosphere of the concert is evident, with Evans and his trio sounding completely at home as they perform with precision and passion.

Released on 6 December 2024 via Elemental Music Records, 'In Norway: The Kongsberg Concert' is a limited-edition first pressing of 8,850 copies, making it a rare and exciting addition to any jazz collection. The album's 1 hour and 19 minutes of music are a treasure trove of cool jazz, bebop, and hard bop, showcasing Evans' mastery of multiple genres. As the latest in the series of Bill Evans' European concert recordings produced by Zev Feldman, this album is a must-listen for fans of the legendary pianist and jazz enthusiasts alike.

  • Poor Pressing, Great Performance

    3 out of 5 stars
    ZuhdjtoqtelItu.May 24, 2025United States🇺🇸

As many have already mentioned, the pressing is sadly not up to par. I've just listened to Side A and cleaned the record beforehand, for the first time. Side B is filled with clicks and pops all over. There are also some really annoying defects that you can't just wash away - it's the pressing itself! I cleaned it with my Keith Monks RCM MKII and L‘art du son - twice! So, it's as clean as it's going to get. And yet, these defects remain, some 50-year-old records don't even have these issues! I find this really frustrating, especially since we all paid a premium for this record. The so-called "limited edition" is just a ploy to fuel FOMO. That being said, the musicians' performance is great, as expected. I have many Bill Evans Trio Live recordings with the same personnel, and they always deliver. Edit: I cleaned all 4 sides with L‘Art du Son multiple times, using a Keith Monks RCM. The discs look amazing, but there are still surface noises and clicks here and there. In my opinion, that's a deal-breaker. I bought this album new and cleaned every side twice before the first play. It sounds like a used record found at a flea market. I have a fine-line stylus, which is quite accurate but still a bit forgiving. So, I can't imagine how it would sound with a Namiki micro ridge. Maybe it's better with that? I don't know. I just know that I have pressings from the 60s that I bought secondhand, and they sound pristine. New records are either hit or miss!

  • Release Flaw on Side B

Great job on this release! Has anyone noticed some pops or crackling on side B towards the end of 'So What,' the final track? Seems like a pressing flaw. Everything else is flawless. #8768.

  • A4's Pressing Tics

Track A4 has some pressing issues: there's a bunch of 'tics' scattered throughout.

  • Evans Trio Shines Brightly

    5 out of 5 stars
    Wodv_FuqyiDecember 6, 2024United States🇺🇸

This is an incredible recording and performance that truly shines. It's a must-have for any Bill Evans enthusiast and one of the best live jazz albums in my collection. RSD mentioned that 4500 copies were pressed, but I ended up with #5713 of a "Limited Edition First Pressing of" 8,850, which is my only real issue. It would be great if RSD could stick to the numbers they announce, as those figures can really influence whether you decide to grab it later or "need" to get it right away! Aside from that, it's an outstanding performance by The Bill Evans Trio.
