This record sounds absolutely incredible, it's just wild how crisp it is.
This is my favorite version of the album for so many reasons. Firstly, it's the ONLY version that matches the tracklist of the 2001 CD release, which is how I first discovered and fell in love with this music. In my opinion, When it started > NYC Cops. The sound quality is flat, free from surface noise, and absolutely stunning! It reminds me of the first time I played this album.
This pressing makes me happy. It's not as harsh on vinyl as it is on CD, but it keeps that gritty, low-fi feel. My copy was still in its seal, the record could've used a good cleaning, but it plays smooth and quiet, didn't really pick up on any surface noise.
The Strokes weren't merely performing music; they were embodying the chaotic rhythm of a generation that had grown weary of the artificial mask of reality. Is This It transcends being just an album; it's a gateway to an alternate realm where norms are twisted, and lines are smudged. It's an auditory adventure, a voyage through a maze of human existence in a concrete wilderness. Can you really say there is a definitive pressing of a low-fidelity recording? Enough about lacquers and metal parts. Perhaps every version and every format of Is This It holds its own enchantment.
The first vinyl I ever purchased was this one, along with Room on Fire, back in 2010 at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame during a visit. I didn't have a setup until 2020, so I had no clue what I was holding onto. It sounds amazing, and I play it once or twice a month. It's truly a special one.
