  • Groovy Swedish Jazz Delight

    5 out of 5 stars
    BeatQWNovember 2, 2025United States🇺🇸

This album truly caught me off guard. The fresh melodies here are so delightfully varied, and the musicians play together with such a groovy rhythm. Elvin's drumming is particularly outstanding, I must say. Maybe I'm a bit partial because of all the Swedish song homages by Flanagan, plus Gitler's notes on the back. I'm guessing this was recorded in Sweden since Van Gelder's name isn't mentioned, but you'd never guess it from the sound quality—Gösta Wilholm did an amazing job in his place. I'd go as far as to say this, along with Soultrane, are my favorite sounding Prestige reissues by AP. This reissue sounds fantastic and is a steal compared to the initial release. It's hugely underappreciated, I'm absolutely loving it!
