The Money Store - Death Grips

Product description

This LP was released in 2023.

Death Grips' debut studio album, The Money Store, is a sonic revolution that marks a significant evolutionary step forward in experimental, industrial, and underground hip-hop. Released on 24 April 2012, this groundbreaking album is the follow-up to their debut mixtape, Exmilitary. The Money Store is a masterclass in pushing boundaries, as the trio seamlessly blends electronic and hip-hop elements to create a unique sound that is both captivating and unsettling.

With their signature blend of experimental hip hop, punk rap, and industrial sounds, Death Grips creates a frenetic tempo that fluctuates throughout the album, keeping the listener in a state of satisfying shock. The album's 13 tracks, including 'Get Got', 'The Fever (Aye Aye)', and 'I've Seen Footage', showcase the band's ability to craft infectious beats and thought-provoking lyrics that challenge the listener's perceptions.

Death Grips' rethinking of hip-hop is not just limited to their sound; their lyrics also tackle the genre's long-standing criticisms, particularly the glorification of violence. By blowing this theme out of proportion and turning it into a nightmare, the band makes a bold statement, emphasizing that violence is not something to be glorified or desired.

The Money Store is a testament to Death Grips' innovative spirit and their willingness to challenge the status quo. With its raw energy, intense beats, and unapologetic lyrics, this album is a must-listen for fans of experimental music. Released on Epic Records, The Money Store has cemented Death Grips' position as a pioneering force in the music industry, and its influence can still be felt today.

  • Vinyl Disappointment: Low Volume, Mediocre Mix

    3 out of 5 stars
    GogesavRaxtbiJanuary 2, 2026United States🇺🇸

This album is fantastic, but the vinyl pressing is a bit of a letdown. I was really excited to play it, but there are two major issues if you're after top-notch sound quality. First off, the volume is super low. I played it all the way through, comparing it to the Spotify version to see if the mix was any better (spoiler: it's not). Then I put on "Fragile" by Yes, and nearly had a heart attack when "Long Distance Runaround" kicked in. I'd unknowingly turned my system way up for "Money Store". The second issue is the mix quality. Even when you crank it up, it's just okay, like a decent CD. Some might say it's "lo-fi" and fits Death Grips' vibe, but that means missing out on the bass that should be hitting you hard. I can't recommend this pressing, but if you must have it on vinyl, it's probably your best bet right now. The other options are a mispress of this version and a black/white split colored vinyl that's going for $314.61. Wow!

  • Seeking Favorite Album Copy

    5 out of 5 stars
    Bitoh_jexyobIjvuhDecember 14, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm on the hunt for this particular copy, so if you've got it, let's make a deal! This album is an all-time favorite of mine, and I've been itching to get my hands on this version for ages.

  • Grimy but Great Death Grips Jacket

    4 out of 5 stars
    JusCLIYuaDecember 12, 2025United States🇺🇸

The jacket arrived in fantastic shape and was well-packaged. As for the record, it was a bit grimy, but hey, all my Death Grips records seem to come that way, and they all play just fine, this one included. The black and white split design looks awesome.

  • First Pressing Impressive Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    CejleyauDecember 11, 2025United States🇺🇸

This being my first and only copy, I can't draw comparisons to other pressings, but it's fantastic on my setup. The audio is incredibly crisp and rich. There's zero unwanted crackles or hiss, just a stellar pressing.

  • White pressing quality issues

    4 out of 5 stars
    Xgxpc.fDecember 10, 2025United States🇺🇸

The audio quality is pretty good and the split is nice (just a tiny mark). However, my copy was quite bent on the white side. There's definitely space for enhancement, but I'm just glad to have it. In my opinion, if you're after a better sounding or higher quality one, go for a black pressing. I reckon it sounds WAY better than this one.
