Product description

This 2023 Limited Edition LP is pressed on Blue vinyl.

Ben Folds returns with his fifth studio album, "What Matters Most," a collection of ten introspective and sharply observed tracks that delve into themes of aging, fame, and the complexities of modern life. Released on June 2, 2023, under New West Records, this album marks Ben Folds' first proper solo effort in 15 years, offering a masterclass in reflection and finding hope in challenging situations.

The album opens with "But Wait, There's More," setting the tone for a journey through Folds' signature blend of alternative rock and pop, with a touch of wit and vulnerability. Tracks like "Exhausting Lover" and "Fragile" showcase his knack for capturing the intricacies of human relationships, while "Clouds With Ellipses" and "Winslow Gardens" offer moments of quiet contemplation. The album also features a collaboration with Tall Heights on the track "Moments," adding a layer of depth and richness to the overall sound.

With "What Matters Most," Ben Folds invites listeners to ponder the essence of life's experiences, blending his signature piano-driven melodies with thoughtful lyrics that resonate long after the final note fades. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to his music, this album is a testament to Folds' enduring talent and his ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level.

  • Stellar Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    Lugbmetboyl_OjqovolJanuary 7, 2026United Kingdom🇬🇧

Zero pops or clicks, absolutely stellar sound quality, gorgeously colored disc, could be the finest sounding record in my collection. (The flexi disc is kinda lousy, but that's par for the course.)

Picked this up for $8 during a Barnes & Noble sale. Happy to finally have at least one Ben Folds vinyl in my collection… probably for quite some time…

  • Sound Quality Impressive

    5 out of 5 stars
    mexuwxqqdvipx12September 18, 2025United States🇺🇸

The sound quality of the pressing is fantastic. I didn't notice any clicks or pops on my copy. The mastering is top-notch. The flexi-disc also sounds pretty decent (considering it's a flexi-disc).

  • Distorted Disappointment

    2 out of 5 stars
    SDRUMEVJune 30, 2025United States🇺🇸

I initially assumed I was going nuts when I noticed some distortion around the midpoint of side 1, but after reading these comments, I see others have experienced the same thing. To me, it's completely unlistenable. It's a real bummer that someone like Ben, who's got a sweet setup (McIntosh and all that jazz) would release something like this. I'm spinning it on a Rega P6 with an Ortofon 2m black cartridge and a Marantz 2270. Plus, it seems like Ben might've signed mine with a Sharpie when it was on its last legs 'cause it's super light. Just really disappointed with this one, oh well.

  • Ben's Signature Vinyl

    4 out of 5 stars
    vpiyajo3458April 28, 2025United States🇺🇸

I agree with what's been said about the mastering earlier. The sound quality is decent, though. The vinyl is flat and has no noticeable hiss. I gave it a spin on the cleaning machine before playing it, and there was some gunk in the tank. It bugs me when the pressing plants don't smooth out the edges properly, but it's not a huge deal. To be honest, I bought this one for the signature. It's pretty neat to have Ben's autograph. I'm glad to have it in my collection of signed album covers.
