This album's got a great sound and is a blast to listen to, with some smooth, easygoing jazz tunes.
Modern Art, it's contemporary jazz, it's jazz that grooves and flows with elegance without being conventional, it sits in the soft blue spectrum, it's restrained, harmonious, soulful, and breezy; yet it's never sluggish and never traditional. There's a nuanced approach to the music here that's unusual, as the musicians find more power playing together than soloing, presenting arrangement after arrangement that's dreamy, filled with fervor, and as boundless as a starry night. But all that's just my take, in 1958 Down Beat gave the album five stars out of five, and that's a remarkable feat indeed. The album and production are outstanding on every level, the tempos are diverse, yet don't overreach, the compositions sound like timeless classics, though back in 1958, this was a genuine departure from the norm. All that's left for you to do now is to go enjoy yourself, Art Farmer and his bandmates have already done the rest.
