The vinyl record comes in a sturdy, thick jacket with a laminated tip-on cover. As for the sound, it's quite decent, though I haven't had anything else to compare it with. I've got other Atlantic jazz records from the mid-70s that are pressed just as well.
The person who mastered this album deserves a beating with wet towels, way too much compression, even up to the point of distortion, no dynamics whatsoever. One of the worst new pressings I've ever encountered!
This record has completely amazed me. It's no secret that early stereo records from 1959 aren't known for their sound quality, but this might just be the best-sounding AP Atlantic 75th release yet! The soundstage is incredibly rich and expansive, creating an immersive, room-filling experience that's perfectly balanced. Big band jazz truly deserves better than monophonic reproduction, and I'm thrilled that this AP is in stereo. The decision to cut it over four sides definitely contributes to its outstanding sonics. 10/10, no doubt about it!
Experts are aware that 9847686 and similar labels are RCA Record Club pressings. This is one of the oldest tricks on Discogs, especially due to the Zep album.
