Product Description

This is a 2023 Reissue Remastered released as a LP.

Tears For Fears' debut album, "The Hurting," released on March 7, 1983, under EMI, is a seminal work in the new wave and synthpop genres. Clocking in at just over an hour, this album is a compelling exploration of human emotions and societal issues, wrapped in a blend of synth-driven melodies and introspective lyrics.

The album opens with "The Hurting," setting the tone for the introspective journey that follows. Standout tracks like "Mad World" and "Pale Shelter" showcase Tears For Fears' signature sound, combining haunting vocals with evocative synths and poignant lyrics. The album also features extended versions of several tracks, offering a deeper dive into the band's musical prowess.

"The Hurting" is a testament to Tears For Fears' ability to blend personal and universal themes, creating a sound that is both deeply personal and widely relatable. From the raw emotion of "Suffer The Children" to the reflective "Change," the album is a powerful exploration of the human condition. Whether you're a longtime fan or a new listener, "The Hurting" is an essential listen for anyone interested in the new wave and synthpop genres.

  • Brilliant 2019 Supermarket Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    ceavvgkujavi5 January 2026United States🇺🇸

Swapped my grubby old UK first press from the 80s for this 2019 supermarket deal at 25 quid, not without some hesitation. Couldn't be happier, it's a brilliant copy, fantastic pressing, flat, quiet and really brings out the dynamics, opening up the soundstage right from the first track, amazing.

  • Digitally Mastered Audio Delight

Just as it says on the cover...DIGITALLY MASTERED AUDIO. Came across a pristine copy, and it's packed with incredible details. Super pleased with this version.

  • Clear Sound, Weak Mastering

    4 out of 5 stars
    Bgjuri27 October 2025United States🇺🇸

The sound quality here is truly impressive - each element is crystal clear and well-defined. That said, the mastering on this record feels a bit... lacking? There's not much depth in the bass, and the mix seems to sit mostly in the mid-range. It's not terrible, just not what I was anticipating. Still, I'd recommend it, as I've heard the original release isn't anything special.
