Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
Unfortunately a pretty lousy pressing… surface noise, clicks and no dynamics even after a thorough cleaning. Pity as this is a beautiful album. The CD is most probably a better choice.
Not everybody’s favorite Low album, but this pressing is extremely dynamic and really got me to appreciate it more. It’s certainly a different style from most of their records, but has many incredible moments on it. I think when Low’s discography is looked back on, this album will be increasingly forgotten as a transitional record between their typical slowcore and electronic eras. I hope not, because that’s an unfair assessment of this album which I also deem to be excellent. Buy the record and maybe your opinion will change as well.
The best Low album in YEARS and on par with Things We Lost In The Fire, Curtain Hits The Cast, and Long Division, matching the stark beauty of those releases, but featuring an overall happier mood on some tracks. "On My Own" in particular is probably the cheeriest song they've done, and is the highest of highlights on here. "Just Make It Stop" is Mimi's most heart wrenching song since "Laser Beam" and "In Metal," working as an ideal centerpiece. Highly recommended.
