Product Description

This is a 1997 Reissue released as a LP.

"The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album, released on January 1, 1969, under Polydor, is a seminal work that bridges the gap between proto-punk and art rock. Clocking in at just over 43 minutes, this album is a concise yet powerful collection of tracks that showcase the band's raw energy and innovative spirit. With songs like "Candy Says" and "Pale Blue Eyes," The Velvet Underground delves into themes of love, life, and the darker corners of human experience. The album's production is stripped down, allowing the band's distinctive sound to shine through. From the haunting melodies of "Jesus" to the driving rhythm of "Beginning To See The Light," each track offers a unique glimpse into the band's creative genius. This album is a testament to The Velvet Underground's enduring influence and remains a vital piece of music history."

  • Reissue's Sound Quality Shines

I typically find Back To Black a bit of a letdown, but this reissue version really delivers great sound quality. Anyone happen to know who handled the mastering for this one?

Great sounding mix, excellent pressing. Volume's a tad low but overall, a very satisfying copy.

  • Closet Mix Falls Flat

This mix was a total snoozefest for me. I can't wrap my head around how anyone could prefer it over the Valentine mix. I just did a side-by-side comparison with the US1985 Verve pressing, and it blows this one out of the water in every aspect. The Closet Mix is just so quiet… and I don’t mean in a good, cozy way. It’s weak, and I don’t mean it’s got a nice, clean sound. It’s just not engaging at all.

  • Superior Sound Quality

This version is fantastic. I just compared it with the Uk71 Closet Mix, and this one sounds so much better. I couldn't even think about playing the Closet Mix instead of this.

  • Closet Mix Superiority

Back in my final year of high school, 83/84, I got hooked on Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground, hunting down every album I could get my hands on. The only copy of The Velvet Underground's third album I managed to find was this import, which was pretty pricey at the time. I had no clue it was the "closet mix" until I picked up the newly remastered version the following year. Initially, I figured it was just the remastering, but when I heard a totally different "Some Kinda Love," I knew there was more to it. Later, when the box set dropped, I realized this was indeed the "Closet Mix." And I gotta say, it sounds even better here than on the CDs. This is the version I go to when I want to listen to this album.
