  • Ultimate 70's Stones Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    zbokapuDecember 25, 2025United States🇺🇸

This one's the real deal for me, the ultimate gritty, murky, and raw rock 'n' roll album from the 70's, striking a perfect harmony between heavy rock tracks and beautiful, tender ballads. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea and Stones fans don't always rate it highly, but it's a perfect finale to that bluesy, country-infused rock 'n' roll vibe the Stones crafted and mastered starting with 'Beggars Banquet' in 1968 and continuing through all their albums up to 'Goats Head Soup' in 1973. The whole band is spot on here, with Jagger's voice at its most emotionally expressive. While I love all the songs, I'd say the standout tracks are 'Silver Train', 'Star Star', 'Winter', 'Angie', '100 Years Ago', and the beautifully heavy yet ethereal, Middle Eastern, somewhat psychedelic 'Can You Hear The Music'. I was lucky enough to snag an NM original UK first pressing, and it sounds as fantastic as ever. The music is incredibly alive and richly vibrant, with an amazing atmosphere. I'd highly recommend grabbing one if you can – don't hesitate!

  • Half-Speed vs. 1986 Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    ZigulPofuw1December 1, 2025United States🇺🇸

This album truly deserves all the accolades it's received, it's significantly better than the initial pressings I've listened to, including the UK first edition. That said, I've got to admit that the new Half-Speed version isn't half bad either. They differ in that the 1986 pressing feels like the same album, but a vastly improved version. It's still a bit muddy, but everything is much clearer. The Half-Speed, on the other hand, sometimes feels like an entirely different album. It strips away most of the mud, and while it's clearer, it can come off as a bit analytical at times. You can hear the multi-tracks, and the mid-range feels a tad shallow. I can't deny the results though, the clarity is impressive. I was going to say they're equally enjoyable for me, but the Half-Speed has a few major drawbacks that I'll get into, and why I think this version beats it, even if I think it could be better. The vocals on the Half-Speed are probably my least favorite part. They're way back in the mix, and you can't turn it up too much because everything else is too loud in comparison. And my main issue - for some reason, Star Star sounds fucking terrible. Like several generations of lossy compression bad for some reason. No other track sounds like that. So, all in all, even if this pressing doesn't revolutionize the album, it's probably the best version of it we've got. Would love to hear some other recommendations though.

  • Remix Delivers Rich Audio

This remix of the album is quite nice and does it well. The audio is rich and crisp, which makes it enjoyable to listen to.
