Product description

This 2023 Limited Edition LP is pressed on Red vinyl.

Dan Bejar, the mastermind behind Destroyer, delivers his thirteenth studio album, "LABYRINTHITIS," a captivating journey through the labyrinth of his unique musical vision. Released on March 25, 2022, via Bella Union, this chamber pop and art pop gem clocks in at just under 44 minutes, offering a concise yet profound listening experience.

"LABYRINTHITIS" is Destroyer's most live-sounding record in years, with Dan Bejar's enigmatic lyrics taking a backseat to the music itself. The album weaves together dreamy electronica, soft rock, and a bewildering collage of ideas, creating a sonic landscape that is as intoxicating as it is mystic. Bejar's songwriting, known for its inscrutability, reaches beyond conventional meaning, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the music.

The album opens with "It's In Your Heart Now," setting a soft, inviting tone that belies the complexity lurking beneath. Tracks like "Suffer" and "All My Pretty Dresses" showcase Bejar's knack for weaving allusions into his lyrics, while "Tintoretto, It's For You" and "Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread" highlight the album's art pop sensibilities. "Labyrinthitis," the title track, is a standout, offering a glimpse into the album's namesake condition, a type of vertigo that leaves one feeling disoriented and off-balance.

Despite its experimental nature, "LABYRINTHITIS" is an album that rewards repeated listens. Each song is a carefully crafted vignette, filled with vivid imagery and subtle nuances that reveal themselves over time. From the danceable beats of "June" to the haunting melodies of "The Last Song," Destroyer's latest offering is a testament to Dan Bejar's enduring creativity and his ability to push the boundaries of indie rock. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to Destroyer's music, "LABYRINTHITIS" is sure to captivate and inspire.

  • Flawed but Fantastic Mastering

    3 out of 5 stars
    VOKO.MDAugust 7, 2025United States🇺🇸

The mastering on this one is fantastic, all wrapped up nicely. However, the pressing isn't perfect. Most tracks have some pops and clicks, but they're not too loud, so the music easily overshadows them. The first time they become a bit annoying is on track B2 Labyrinthitis, and no, I'm not referring to the crunching sound (which is part of the track) but some repeated pops every cycle until about halfway through. B5 has some noisier sections, still bearable, and luckily, I didn't encounter any major issues with the transition to B6, but the constant pops become more noticeable since it's a very subtle sounding part. Lastly, B6 had some louder repeated pops, really noticeable. So, playing this one ends with a bit of a sad farewell. The colorway isn't my favorite, but it's more pleasing to the eye once it's spinning. ★★★½Pro-Ject X2Audio-Technica AT-VM740ML (VTF @ 2.1 g)Cambridge Alva DuoEdifier S2000 Pro

  • Hissing, Poor Quality

    2 out of 5 stars

Poor quality record with hissing and a few pops on both tracks

  • Annoying Click on Splatter

    4 out of 5 stars
    kutgonyi.qoqvogApril 2, 2025United States🇺🇸

My version has the right sides, but it's got a flaw: there's a loud, repeating click that goes on for minutes on side two, specifically on tracks 5 and 6, which seems to happen when the splatter color changes. It's a shame because the mastering is great and the pressing is good otherwise.

  • Brilliant Album, No Complaints

    5 out of 5 stars
    geidkbuaxAugust 23, 2024United States🇺🇸

I'm not sure if I just got a good one or what, but my copy sounds fantastic from start to finish. Just another brilliant album from one of my favorite artists ever, all wrapped up nicely. Nothing to complain about here.

  • Solid Pressing, Smooth Play

    5 out of 5 stars
    cywatmofo72May 9, 2024United States🇺🇸

Everything's good with my version. Both sides are pressed just right and it plays smooth even without a cleaning. Solid pressing.
