Product description

This 2014 Reissue LP is pressed on 180g vinyl.

"Your Blues," Destroyer's sixth studio album, is a bold departure from the band's earlier rock-centric sound, marking a significant shift towards a more pop-oriented aesthetic. Released on March 9, 2004, via Merge Records, this 46-minute chamber pop and art pop masterpiece showcases Destroyer's unique and defiant expression, making it one of the most accomplished albums in their discography.

The album opens with "Notorius Lightning," setting the tone for the eclectic journey that follows. Tracks like "It's Gonna Take an Airplane" and "An Actor's Revenge" highlight the band's knack for crafting intricate, layered compositions that blend orchestral elements with catchy pop melodies. "The Music Lovers" and "From Oakland to Warsaw" further explore this fusion, creating a rich tapestry of sound that is both innovative and accessible.

"New Ways of Living," the seventh track, stands out as a pivotal moment on the album, showcasing Destroyer's ability to blend personal introspection with universal themes. The album's standout moment comes with the powerful closing lines of "Don't Become the Thing You Hated," where frontman Dan Bejar's impassioned vocals deliver a memorable and impactful finale.

"Your Blues" is not just a collection of songs; it's a testament to Destroyer's evolution and their willingness to push the boundaries of their sound. With its unique blend of chamber pop and art pop elements, this album is a standout in the band's discography and a must-listen for fans of innovative and thought-provoking music.

★★★☆☆UPDATE Just got the second copy, and honestly, I'd only suggest this if you can tolerate the distortion on track B4. It's likely a mastering problem. My first copy sounded decent on my setup, overall. I'd say it's warm and detailed enough to warrant a vinyl purchase. The downside is the pressing quality, and possibly a mastering issue on B4? Let me elaborate. There's some surface noise, mostly clicks, not too distracting, but you can notice some "thumps" (sounding like a loop), some brief crackle, etc. Nothing that would make me not recommend this release if not for the distortion on certain parts of B4 The Fox and the Hound, which might be clipping (so a mastering issue) or a specific error causing distortion on some copies.I can handle scattered pops and clicks, but something that directly alters the music's feel, I can't ignore. A fantastic record that deserves better (and I could say the same for many other Destroyer releases).Pro-Ject X2with Audio-Technica AT-VM740MLVTF @ 2.1 gramsCambridge Alva DuoEdifier S2000 Pro
