Stromae truly shines as an artist with this album. Known for hits like Papaoutai and Alors on Dance, he's done something special here: I'm genuinely fond of every single track. The composition is brilliant, with unique elements like water droplets in Fils de Joie, choir chants in l'enfer, or even a flute in the rap track Pas Vraiment. Who'd think a flute would work with French rap? It's unusual, but it absolutely does...As for the quality of this standard black pressing, I've got no issues. The music is vibrant, with a great soundstage, clear vocals, and dynamic instruments. With this album, Stromae has proven himself as an artist who can create a full body of work, not just one or two chart-toppers.
This disc's sound is absolutely incredible! The mastering is so dynamic and spacious. The only downside is the poor noise floor, so I decided to rip the record to 24/96khz and applied some careful software noise reduction (-16 db of NR) to keep all the musical details intact. The result is an awesome high-fidelity digital copy with around -15 rms, compared to the -8 of the streaming version. By the way, I wish they'd release CDs with dynamics or make them available on streaming platforms. It's not that hard or expensive, especially when you consider vinyl production...
Yet another brilliant album from this unique artist! It's so disappointing that he no longer tours (I had tickets for his Amsterdam show, but it was called off :( ) and doesn't release albums frequently. The world would be better off if he created more masterpieces like this one!
Perfect score for this album. The record's quality is top-notch, zero hiss or crackles on my copy whatsoever.
Stromae has returned! And his latest album is as fantastic as ever. Not a single track to skip. 2022's top album.
