Brian travers gave this to my uncle in Birmingham 1981 and I got it as a gift in 1988. The pressing is incredible and an absolute must to anybody with an ear for great music. Also, remember how young the lads were when making this.....in my opinion one of the best albums ever made.
I disagree that this was the only UB40 worth a listen, however it is the best of the bunch. A highly underrated group that gave so much back to Jamaica taking a lot less and giving a lot more than many from Jamaican songwriters and originators.Whether you like the Lp or not Labour Of Love ploughed money back into the same Jamaican artistes once taken advantage of with one off writing fees and per recording/performance payments.
Sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis, vielen Dank. Versandverzögerung aufgrund von Weihnachten.
Automatisch übersetzt,No-noise copy with superb dynamic range, maybe the one issue to look out for. Brilliant pressing by GZ Media.Quite sure (not 100 %) that this was cut by Oli Morgan at Abbey Road. Really sure this wasn't 'plated' by Eddie Gorecky who's been credited for the original pressing's plating process. The one UB40 for those people who are really into serious Roots Rock Reggae UK stylee... Still wonder why such a brilliant band decided to release only Pop fillers no killers afterwards, but this one stands proud next to your Misty In Roots/ Creation Rebel, Black Symbol and the likes.HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!To me, this is the 1980s greatest album. Wonderful UK Reggae with unforgettable melodies, great 'reality' lyrics and beautiful production work. A milestone that sadly is forgotten quite too often in lists like this one . timeless classic!!!
People seem to write UB40 off some time around Red Red Wine. That’s a shame as up until Labour Of Love 1 UB40 were one of the most exciting British reggae bands of the time. Blending in dub and roots with what would later be called post punk, Signing Off and it’s follow-up did no wrong imho. Tight, claustrophobic, menacing and brutal in places these albums are snapshots of early 80s Britain. I’d highly recommend this album in particular. Get this and the 12”s of The Earth Dies Screaming and Dream A Lie, and you’re sorted. The SQ is superb. No overwhelming compression here. I myself lost interest in the band somewhere around Rat In Mi Kitchen, but Signing Off and Present Arms are essential purchases if you’re interested in alternative pop/rock of the early 80s.
