Extremely let down by this one. The vinyl is LOUDLY NOISY in the spaces between tracks. I can't recall hearing such a noisy record. And as you'd expect, since the music is usually soft and delicate, it's incredibly distracting. Give this one a miss.
This is a truly wonderful album. Sufjan's thoughtful approach to his music has a way of drawing me in and making me reflect. The dynamics on this record are fantastic, shifting from barely audible to full-on intensity. The musical layers are rich and well-crafted, with a confident production guiding it all. The mastering seems a bit compressed, especially in the louder parts where things can get a tad muddled and unclear. My vinyl copy was quite quiet and the packaging is excellent. Despite any minor flaws, the music shines through and makes this a strong addition to Sufjan's collection. It's definitely worth playing on repeat.
I wasn't sure about buying this vinyl since Sufjan's records aren't exactly top-notch in quality, but this pressing is surprisingly quiet and full-bodied. [Some highs are a tad overcooked, though]
Terrible presssing, it's all noise and sounds squished together, no clarity at all. Perhaps the black one's any better.
