How do we keep reviews authentic?

Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.

Mine has a couple of crackles, but it's not a big deal. The sound quality is fantastic, and I'm really digging the shiny cover.

  • Original vs Remastered

    4 out of 5 stars

Checking out every album in my collection: I've put this somewhat "Irrelevant" version up against the 2018 Fish People Remaster. I can't speak to how it might compare to a UK pressing, but here's my take. First off, the bass on the 2018 remaster is turned way up. I had to dial down the bass on my amp to 2/5 to match the original. Keep that in mind as you read this. I focused on Running Up That Hill, especially the intro, and to me, the original has a much wider soundstage. In the remaster, everything seems to come from a specific spot depending on where you're listening. This makes some things sound great, like the drum machine and background synth, but others not so much, like that iconic "trumpet" (?) sound. The original has a more "homogenic" (not Björk, lol) sound. Which one sounds better is up to your personal preference. Then, I checked out Cloudbusting, and there's no question the drum machine on the remaster sounds better—clearer than the original. But I found every other aspect of the song to be pretty much the same, if not a bit better on the '85 version. And finally, The Ninth Wave. No doubt about it, the original crushes the remaster. But remember, the reissue has the bass cranked up by default, which unfortunately makes some of the details in the suite get lost, especially in Waking The Witch. It's amazing how much you can find in that track after listening to it hundreds of times. Even so, the remaster doesn't sound bad at all. It's actually a great listen and sounds really good. So, my verdict is that the original pressing sounds better, but not by a huge margin. If you can find a good-sounding one at a fair price, go for it. But if not, the remaster is totally fine. P.S.; aren't the track titles in Spanish adorable? It's a cute little detail, te amo Argentina ♥️
